Foreword from the book:
In 2017, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight based at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire celebrated their 60th year. In preparing this book, I set out to capture the people of the Flight at work during that celebratory year as well as the aircraft. It’s been an interesting year with frustrations and celebrations in equal measure, but one thing stands true above all else – a determination to get the job done and a team bond that cannot be broken.
The passion all members of the team have for keeping these beautiful aircraft in the skies is clear for anyone to see. If like me, you spend time on the fence line of the BBMF hangar, or see the Flight in the skies all over the country you will see nothing but daily dedication in ensuring the memories of The Many and The Few are never forgotten. It has been an honour as a photographer and supporter, to stand and shoot some very special moments and I would like to thank all of the team on the Flight for being so friendly and welcoming despite the ever present long lens pointing in their direction at various locations!
I hope that this selection of some of my favourite photographs from the season goes some small way to thanking the entire team for their efforts and I, like many others, look forward to many more years in flight for this very special team of people and aircraft.
Lest we forget
Coningsby, Lincolnshire, 2017
This book is dedicated to the memory of the men and women of Bomber and Fighter Command without whose sacrifices, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight would not exist today.
